Going With the Flow

As many of you know I am now back in the Philippines. I decided to take some time off for myself and catch up with friends before returning to Canada in January.

What better way to kick start my time here than a FLOW retreat to Zambales with lovely ladies behind SurfYogaSamba. I originally heard about FLOW a few years back when I was living and working in La Union however was never able to enjoy one of their Surf, Yoga, Samba weekend retreats.

So here are some quick snapshots of my weekend of FLOW:

First up was Surf Lessons with Surfasana Surf School. Despite the flat conditions the coaches led us through some great dry land training drills. It was the perfect refresher for me considering its been almost 6 months since the last time I surfed.

Practicing some surf rescue techniques, here I am rescuing AlohaBoard Sports Free Surfer Camille Post Santiago. Really enjoyed the focus and attention paid to water safety by the coaches at Surfasana. Photo Credit: Freelance Travel Writer Kara Santos.

Over the 3 days FLOW participants got to enjoy an evening Yin Yoga class with Monica (1 of the 3 founders of FLOW), a surf inspired yoga class led by Corey Wills of Surfasana and a bonus morning Vinyasa class with participant and yoga instructor Paul.

Stretching out during our surf inspired yoga session from Corey Wills.

One of my favourite parts of the FLOW weekend (and something I hope they include more of in the future!) was the focus on green and healthy eating.

The Samba portion of the weekend was provided by Escola Samba de Manila and we all got the chance to try out our samba moves on the dance floor as well as provide the beat with the drums.

A huge thank you to the organizers of this weekend. It was a great way to kick off my return to the Philippines and take some much needed time to reconnect with my body and mind.

For more information on FLOW retreats make sure to check them out on Facebook. The FLOW Zambales weekend was in celebration of their 3rd Anniversary and they are planning a BIG year next year with a total of 9 retreats in lots of new locations in the Philippines.
