Plastic in Paradise

Paradise: (def) Paradise is a religious term for a place in which existence is positive, harmonious and timeless. It is conceptually a counter-image of the supposed miseries of human civilization, and in paradise there is only peaceprosperity, and happiness. Paradise is a place of contentment, but it is not necessarily a land of luxury and idleness.

More many travellers the word paradise congers up images of a beautiful white sand beaches, turquoise water, clear skies, and palm trees blowing in the wind. This paradise exists here in Flores but there is one unavoidable problem: PLASTIC

Sadly it is hard to go anywhere in the world nowadays without running into plastic waste. This is especially true here in Flores where proper waste disposal is not available in most areas.

But what can we do? Eco Flores is helping to link communities on Flores to see the potential for income generation from Plastic (and other recyclable materials). "Sampah Adalah Uang" or "Waste is Money" is the new slogan and with the Bank Sampah in Ende and PlasticMan Institue in Labuan Bajo we are helping to show other communities that throwing plastic away (or burning it) is like throwing the money away.
